Applied Science BTEC
Combined Science Grade 5,5 at GCSE level or Grade 5 in a single science subject (Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics) and at least a Grade 5 in mathematics and English, no less than a Grade 4 in other subjects.
Art & Design
Grade 5 in Art (if taken at GCSE) and a Grade 5 in English as there is a written element linked to the personal investigation. However, this course is open to students who have not taken Art before.
Art Textiles
Grade 5 in Art Textiles, Art or Product Design (if taken at GCSE) and a Grade 5 in English as there is a written element linked to the personal investigation. However, this course is open to students who have not taken a similar subject previously
Art Photography
No prior knowledge is required but you should have an interest in photography and an open, enquiring mind. A Grade 5 in GCSE English is required as there is a written element to the personal investigation.
Biology
Combined Science Grade 7,7 at GCSE level or Grade 7 in Triple Biology and at least a Grade 6 in Mathematics.
Business Studies
Grade 5 in Business (if taken at GCSE) and Grade 5s in both English and Mathematics. This course is available to all students whether you have studied Business at GCSE level or not.
Chemistry
Grade 7,7 at GCSE in Combined Science/ or Grade 7 in Triple Chemistry.
In addition at least a grade 6 in Mathematics is required. To support your Chemistry studies, it is advised that you also study A level Mathematics
Drama and Theatre Studies
Grade 5 in Drama (if taken at GCSE). This course is open to students who have not taken Drama. However, a Grade 5 or above in English is recommended.
English Literature
Grade 6 in English Language or English Literature
Film Studies
There are no subject-specific grade requirements. However, a Grade 5 or above in English is recommended.
Geography
Grade 6 in Geography
Graphic Design
Grade 5 in Art (if taken at GCSE) and a Grade 5 in English as there is a written element linked to the personal investigation. However, this course is open to students who have not taken Art before.
History
Grade 6 in GCSE History and Grade 5 GCSE English Language.
Mathematics
A strong Grade 6 at GCSE in higher level Mathematics.
Further Mathematics
Grade 7 at GCSE in higher level Mathematics.
Media Studies
There are no subject-specific requirements. However, a Grade 5 in English, an arts or humanities subject is recommended.
Philosophy, Ethics and Religious Studies
Grade 6 in Religious Education
Physical Education
You must be able to play sports to a high level. Ideally you will have studied GCSE Physical Education and achieved a Grade 6 or higher. You should also have at least a combined Science Grade 5,5 at GCSE (or Grade 5 in Biology triple Science GCSE)
Physics
A strong Grade 7,7 in Combined Science or Grade 7 Triple Sciences Physics at GCSE and a Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
To support your Physics studies, you must also study A Level Mathematics.
Politics
You must have a Grade 5 at GCSE in English.
Psychology
GCSE Grade 5,5 in Combined Science or Grade 5 in Triple Biology and Grade 5 in English and Mathematics.
Sociology
Grade 5 in GCSE English.
Spanish
Grade 6 in Spanish
